NiÊ»ihau (; Hawaiian: [ˈniÊ”iˈhÉw]) is the westernmost and seventh largest inhabited island in HawaiÊ»i. It is 17.5 miles (28.2 km) southwest of KauaÊ»i across the Kaulakahi Channel.
The Niʻihau incident occurred on December 7–13, 1941, when Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service pilot Shigenori Nishikaichi crash landed his Zero on the Hawaiian island of Niihau after participating in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
